Tractor Driving Training For 13-16 Year Olds

We are able to provide 13-16-year olds tractor driving courses to companies and individuals in York and throughout the UK. We are an approved UK Rural Skills training provider and are able to offer accreditation under UK Rural Skills.

The aim of this training course is to give candidates a basic understanding of the knowledge & skills required for the safe operation of a tractor & attachments. it will introduce candidates to the hazards & risks associated with the tractor & related machinery. It introduces candidates to safely manoeuvring the machine both laden and unladen, how to comply with current Health & Safety legislation & relevant codes of practice. The delivery of training covers a mix of both theory and practical elements such as key Health & Safety legislation, codes of practice & practical sessions where you will receive plenty of hands-on experience operating the tractor.

The length of training may vary depending on the objectives covered, the ratio of trainee/instructor and the ability and previous experience of the trainees.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course you should be able to:

  • Carry out a risk assessment of the site, task & machinery being used
  • Mount & dismount the machine correctly maintaining 3 points of contact
  • Name the key components that make up the build of a modern tractor
  • Identify and explain the purpose of all controls and instruments of the tractor
  • Identify types of attachments that are safe for use with the tractor and those which are not
  • Outline the relevant legislation and codes of practice that apply to tractor driving and use of attachments
  • Carry out pre-start checks and adjustments
  • Prepare the tractor to accept a range of selected attachments
  • Attach a 3-point linkage implement & set it for work
  • Remove 3-point linkage machine & leave safe
  • Attach a trailed implement & reverse it
  • Remove trailed implement & leave safe
  • Mount and dismount tractor safely using 3 points of contact
  • Understand the meaning of warning signals and indicators
  • Operate a tractor and attachments safely to meet given objectives
  • Understand & demonstrate the safe stop procedure
  • Carry out post use checks on the tractor
  • Explain how & where to clean the machine & PPE requirements
