Tractor Training

We are able to provide Tractor training courses to companies and individuals in York and throughout the UK. We are an approved UK Rural Skills training provider and are able to offer accreditation under UK Rural Skills or NPTC City & Guilds.

The tractor is one of the most vital & versatile machines in agriculture & many other industries, horticulture, construction & amenities to name a few.

On these courses you will learn both theory such as key Health & Safety legislation & road use and undertake practical sessions where you will receive plenty of hands-on experience behind the wheel of a tractor, including basic operations, hitching implements and manoeuvring safely.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course you should be able to:

  • Carry out a risk assessment of the site, task & machinery being used
  • Mount & dismount the machine correctly maintaining 3 points of contact
  • Understand the gauges & lights on the instrument panel/dashboard
  • Understand the function of all controls
  • Understand the reasons for & undertake daily pre use checks
  • Understand the hazards associated with some controls
  • Understand & demonstrate the importance of the safe stop procedure
  • Be competent in driving a tractor in a forward and reverse direction
  • Leave the tractor in a safe position when parking
  • Check the tractor and ensure the tractor is in a safe road going state
  • Attach a mounted implement and manoeuvre in a forward and reverse direction
  • Attach a trailed implement and manoeuvre in a forward and reverse direction
  • Leave unattached implements in a safe state
  • Correctly attach a PTO shaft between tractor and implement
  • Understand the different speeds off the PTO
  • Inspect & attach the PTO shaft guards correctly
  • Carry out basic operations using tractor mounted loader

We can also deliver tractor courses for the future drivers with our 13-16-year-old tractor handling courses.

The duration of the courses varies depending on the objectives covered, the ratio of candidate/instructor the ability/experience of the candidates.
