Sit-In ATV (UTV) Training

We are able to provide both UTV (sit-in) & ATV (sit-astride) training courses to companies and individuals in York and throughout the UK. We are an approved UK Rural Skills training provider and are able to offer accreditation under UK Rural Skills or NPTC City & Guilds.

The aim of these training courses is to give candidates the knowledge, understanding and basic skills in the safe operation of All-Terrain Vehicles. It introduces the candidates to the hazards and risks involved with driving All-Terrain Vehicles and how to comply with current Health and Safety legislation.

The delivery of training covers a mix of both theory and practical elements such as key Health & Safety legislation Road use and practical sessions where you will receive plenty of hands-on experience operating the machines on various terrain & also if required using trailed or mounted implements.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course you should be able to:

  • Carry out Risk Assessments for the site, task & machine
  • Understand current Health and Safety legislation, and codes of practice
  • Carry out pre-start checks and adjustments using the handbook or checklist
  • Identify the controls
  • Identify the carrying capacity in rear body
  • Identify the correct towing capacities
  • Carry out all movements of the vehicle safely, and smoothly for the type of vehicle and load/implement being used
  • Take into consideration any changes in weather and ground conditions, and types of terrain that could affect the handling & safety of the machine.
  • Identify any hazards and obstacles which could be encountered during the operation and what control measures can be implemented
  • Maintain the efficiency of vehicle & its performance through the appropriate handling and use of the vehicle’s gears & accelerator
  • Select attachments that are suitable for the power vehicle ensuring they are attachments secure and safe
  • Leave the vehicle safe after use and in a condition for future use
  • Demonstrate the safe stop procedure

The length of training may vary depending on the objectives covered, the ratio of trainee/instructor and the ability and previous experience of the trainees.
